Tickling Tomato Blossoms for More Tomatoes

Do you know the little trick of tickling your tomato blossoms? If not, I’m about to blow your mind. We have gotten massive sets of tomatoes this year despite horrible early blight due to this simple and easy trick. I learned about it recently from @migardener and can’t believe I hadn’t heard of it sooner, I’ve been growing tomatoes for a long time and it really does seem to make a big difference!

Typically your plant will produce a stem with multiple flowers and maybe half of those flowers will turn to fruit, right? Since we’ve been doing this tickling thing, we get fruit from nearly every flower!!! That is a pretty incredible increase in production!

This is a great activity for kids to help with in the garden. My 6yr old daughter Josie explains how to do it in the video. So easy. (And yes her face in almost entirely blue, that is a dolphin jumping out of the ocean. She is really into doing her own face paint these days and although it is a freakin mess, I love seeing her creativity!)
